Staff demonstrated a compassionate approach to providing care for people at the end of their lives. One staff member told us, “The ethos of the home has never changed since I started here – care, dignity and respect, we only get 1 chance to get people’s end of life journey right.” Staff shared how they worked alongside the local palliative care team to ensure people’s end of live wishes were met. A staff member said, “It’s important to identify the needs and wishes of people, sometimes we get short notice placements with little information about the person. We consult with the person, their families, and other health professionals to quickly develop a plan of what they wish.”
There were well established systems to support people’s end of life care. The home had attained Gold Standards Framework accreditation which aims to support organisations ensure people’s wishes are fully supported in their final stages of life.
