During a routine inspection
At the time of our inspections there were 30 people living at the home. We found people’s privacy and dignity were respected and they were involved in decisions regarding their care and support. People’s needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan.
People who use the service, staff and visitors were protected against the risks of unsafe premises. The provider has taken steps to provide care in an environment that was adequately maintained. However, the design, layout and décor of the home did not provide an environment that maximised the existing abilities of the people with dementia or that promoted their independence.
In relation to the suitability of staffing, we found the provider had not ensured that, at all times, there were sufficient numbers of suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff. We found staff were not supported to deliver care to people living at the home safely and to an appropriate standard. Not all staff had been provided with appropriate induction training and not all staff were up to date with training in the subjects considered mandatory by the provider.
All people we spoke with knew how to raise concerns or how to make a complaint and said they would speak with the manager or another person in charge if needed. One person told us "the staff are very good. I have never felt the need to complain". People we spoke with all said they felt safe living in the home. One person told us "I feel very safe here". Another person we asked said "yes definitely I feel safe here."
