Victoria House Care Home provides accommodation and personal care for up to 26 older people living with a range of health care needs. Some people required support with memory loss and dementia, whilst others were reliant on care staff to assist them with their personal care and health needs. At our last inspection, the service was rated Good overall. The assessment was completed between 12 and 28 December 2023. A site visit to gather people’s experiences and observe care practices was carried out on 13 December 2023. We looked at 5 quality statements; Safeguarding; Involving people to manage risks; Safe and effective staffing; Independence, choice and control and Equity in experiences and outcomes. People received safe care and support by staff trained to recognise signs of abuse or risk and understood what to do to safely support people. Each person had care plans and a range of risk assessments that meant peoples’ safety and well-being were protected. People were supported to take positive risks, to ensure they had as much choice and control of their lives as possible. There were enough staff to meet people's needs. Safe recruitment practices had been followed before staff started working at the service. Staff had all received essential training to meet peoples support and care needs. Service specific training was sourced and staff competencies undertaken. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice. People confirmed they were involved in their care planning and that their preferences and wishes respected. The provider had effective systems to support people’s diverse needs and protecting their lifestyle choices. Following this assessment, the service has received an overall rating of good for all quality statements assessed.
