Our current view of the service

Richmond Heights is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care for up to 51 people. Some people using the service were living with dementia. At the time of our inspection there were 45 people using the service.
We carried out this assessment to follow up on actions we had asked the provider to take at the inspection we completed in December 2022.
Assessment activity started on 9 October 2024 and ended on 22 October 2024. We visited the service on 9 October 2024. We looked at all quality statements in safe, responsive and well led and one quality statement in caring.
The service had made improvements and is no longer in breach of regulations.

Overall people told us they felt happy and safe living at Richmond Heights and would feel comfortable raising concerns should they need to. People felt staff helped to keep them safe from harm and we saw people were relaxed in the company of the staff. One told us, “I feel safe and well looked after.”
People and their relatives told us staff were respectful, kind and helpful, and our observations supported this.
There were enough staff available to meet people’s needs. However, some relatives felt additional staffing was required. One told us, “We feel the staff must be under pressure as they are short staffed.”
People were able to make choices about their day to day lives and undertook activities at the service which supported their independence, health, and wellbeing. Residents and relatives told us they would like more activities, particularly in the garden and the local community.
We received mixed feedback from both relatives and residents about involvement in the care planning process.
People and relatives had opportunities to give feedback and their wishes were respected.
People said they were happy with the support they received around their medicines and could access healthcare services when needed.
People’s family and friends were free to visit when they wished.
