Our view of the service
Brentwood Care Centre is a 'care home.' People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as a single package under one contractual agreement. CQC regulates both the premises and the care provided and both were looked at during this inspection. Brentwood Care Centre provides accommodation and nursing care for up to 112 older people including those living with dementia. The home is split over three separate floors, each with communal lounges and dining areas. There were a total of 73 people living at the service at the time of our inspection. We looked at 8 quality statements; Safeguarding; Infection prevention and control: Medicine optimisation; Involving people to manage risks; Safe and effective staffing; Governance, management and sustainability: Shared direction and culture: Capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders. We visited the service on 21 February 2024 which was a night visit and on 4 March 2024 we visited again during the day. At our last inspection, we identified breaches of Regulation 12 (Safe care and treatment), Regulation 17 (Good governance), and Regulation 18 (Staffing) of The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. During our assessment, we found the provider was no longer in breach of Regulation 18, but further improvements were required in this area. We also identified the provider had not made the required improvements and remained in breach of Regulation 12 and 17.
People's experience of this service
Most people and relatives told us they felt safe at Brentwood Care Centre. Whilst our observations found there was enough staff to meet people’s needs, we received mixed feedback from people and relatives about staffing levels. People were positive about the regular staff who supported them.
