The person we spoke with commented positively on all aspects of the service, from the initial consultation, right through to the aftercare. They said any risks were explained, they were given time to decide whether or not to go ahead with treatment and asked to sign a consent form. Overall, they said they thought the service was "fantastic".
Comment cards included phrases such as "I would highly recommend it", "The information was very comprehensive and any questions were answered with reassurance" and "I made a great choice".
People were also complimentary about the staff, using phrases like "really helpful, knowledgeable and friendly" and "really nice people who put you at ease and great surgeon".
Records were well maintained and stored securely for the correct length of time.
All the necessary equipment was in place. Regular checks and servicing were carried out as required.
The premises were comfortable, clean and well decorated. However, a fire risk assessment had identified that some actions were needed to ensure the service was fully compliant with fire safety legislation. Some of the actions identified had not been addressed.
We found patient records were well organised, clear and included a screening process to ensure that people are suitable for treatment. Medication was stored appropriately at the clinic and audited monthly.
We saw that the organisation had developed a training plan to ensure that staff had sufficient knowledge to carry out their work. Staff told us that they enjoyed working at Ultralase with all staff having worked there in excess of six years. We found that the clinic had a named Laser Protection supervisor who had attended training for this role. Ultralase Chester had a comprehensive complaints policy and procedure.
People told us they 'felt safe and supported' by the care and treatment received. They told us they were kept fully informed at each stage of their treatment and were given detailed information on what action to take and who to contact if they had any problems following surgery.
