During a routine inspection

We spoke with people living at the home and their visitors. This enabled us to gather views and experiences of the service provided. We spoke with people in private and also had general discussions with people in communal areas. We spent time observing people's care and support. We also spoke with eight members of staff.

People told us that they were happy living at Crowmoor. One person, who reflected the views of everyone we spoke with, said, 'It's nice here, the staff are very good to you and the food is lovely '.

People told us that they were involved as much as they wanted to be in making decisions about their care and support and relatives said that they had also been consulted in the care planning process.

Staff met people's care and support needs in ways that they preferred. People were treated with dignity and respect. Everyone said that staff were kind and helpful.

People were protected because staff were confident to recognise and report abuse.

We saw that staff had time to spend with people and met their needs promptly. People considered that stafing was sufficient and flexible to meet people's individual and changing needs.

The home ensured that people's views were considered and listened to and they had systems in place to monitor care provided.

During a routine inspection

People told us that they enjoy living at Crowmoor House and that they very much consider it 'their home'. They told us that they are involved in planning their care, that their views are always taken into account in the way the service is provided and delivered. Letters sent to the commission about the home said the following:

'Absolutely brilliant in every respect.'

'Everyone seems happy, looked after well, staff explained things very well, well done to all'.

People said their privacy and dignity is always respected and their independence promoted. They said that staff made a difference to their lives.

People told us that the home is very well run. 'The care is superb, it's a happy home and I'm very well looked after here'.

People told us they are happy with their bedrooms and that they can either remain in the privacy of their own room or join other people in the range of communal areas available. They said their rooms are kept clean and when they moved in they were encouraged to bring in some of their personal belongings to make it their 'own'.

People said the staff are kind, work hard and know them well. One person said 'the freedom the staff give me makes all the difference. I'm very happy here, the food is superb and I'm looked after extremely well'.
