We spoke with one visitor who told us they were still getting us to the service as this was the first time her X had been in for a respite break.

We looked at three care records and found they contained enough information to show the care and treatment and support required.

We saw sufficient numbers of staff were on duty. Staff spoken with told us they received training relevant to their role and they felt supported by the manager.

We saw regular monitoring of the records and services provided were in place to protect people who used the service from any risks or unsafe care.

The people we spoke with told us, 'Its nice here' and 'The staff are nice and kind.'

We were shown the shown the results of the last relatives survey from September 2012. Some of the comments included:

'Firwood House was very good. Everything top class, everything tidy, good food, staff top class. I would recommend it. Everyone keep up the good work'.

'This episode in your care has transformed my mother. She came in hardly able to walk. Within days she was walking with a zimmer with little assistance. She was given a quality of care that anyone would want for a loved one and the family were kept up to date with every aspect of the care package. She said to me whilst in your care, 'I never knew I could be so happy'.
