Our current view of the service

Requires improvement

Updated 26 January 2024

Date of assessment: 11 April to 29 May 2024. We found areas of concern and good practice. Our overall rating of this service is requires improvement. We found 2 breaches of legal regulations in relation to consent to care and treatment and governance. This means the service needs to make improvements in these areas. The provider failed to ensure mental capacity assessments were completed to ensure people and their relatives were involved in planning, managing and reviewing people’s care and treatment. There were insufficient systems to support good governance as the provider had not identified issues we found at this assessment. However, the provider was receptive to our feedback and started to implement some service improvements quickly. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of the service

Updated 26 January 2024

While people and relatives we spoke to expressed they were generally happy with their care, our assessment found people were not being supported in line with the expected standards. A relative we spoke to raised no concerns about safeguarding or any other safety concerns, advising they were always contacted by staff if there was anything to report. However, they had not seen any care records and were unsure how often these were reviewed. A relative confirmed staff would support their loved one on occasions to make choices about everyday care decisions as well as supporting them to keep in touch with family. They knew who to speak to if they had concerns about the care and treatment being delivered and provided positive feedback about the staff working at the service. People’s environment was not personalised to their own preferences. People were not supported to access the community regularly to take part in activities they enjoyed.
