During a routine inspection

Valley road provides support for four people with learning difficulties. On the day of our visit we observed that people appeared settled and relaxed with the people supporting them. People were treated respectfully and supported in caring for their home environment.

Staff were knowledgeable about the people they supported and we saw that support plans were clear, detailed and person centred. Risk assessments were in place, to ensure that people were safe and protected.

People were given opportunity to make decisions about their care where they were able. Where an individual wasn't able to consent to care or treatment, decisions were made in the person's best interest.

During a routine inspection

We met and spoke to all four of the people who live in the home when we visited. Because of each person's learning disabilities and their limited verbal communications, they were unable to tell us about what it is like to live in the home. Two of the residents had lived in the home for approximately 20 years, one had been resident for a number of years and the fourth person had recently moved in.

When we asked them how they were, one person said 'good' whilst another made a positive thumbs up gesture. Each person looked well cared for, was well dressed, clean and smart.

We watched the interaction between the staff on duty and people living in the home. People appeared very relaxed in the company of the staff and there was a good rapport between them. Staff were offering people choice, encouraging them to undertake tasks independently and supporting them where needed.
