During a routine inspection

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people using the service, because people had complex needs, which meant they were not able to tell us how they felt about living at the home. We spoke with the staff on duty as the manager was unavailable at the time of our visit.

We saw that each person had a personalised activities programme. These were varied and provided structure to their days. We saw care files that detailed individual care and health needs. This information was used to support people on a daily basis and at reviews.

The staff team was organised to provide support and maximise people's individuality and independence. We saw the interaction between the staff and people living at the home to be friendly, supportive and geared to each person as an individual. Staff described the home positively, "This was my first job in care. I've had good training and the communication is really good. The team really works together for the benefit of the people who live here."

During a routine inspection

Due to the nature of the service, we were unable to speak to anyone to gain their views. However, we spoke to a relative on the telephone and looked at comments made by healthcare professionals when they had visited and other relatives.

A relative told us that there had been many changes and they were now "very very happy" with how the person was looked after. We observed people coming back from having a picnic and going out for a ride in the mini bus during our visit.

Some visitors, including a health and social care professional had written a comment about the service when they had visited. This was part of the services quality audit. Visitors had commented, "always polite, good relationship", "always informed of concerns" and "having qualified and professional staff makes us feel he is in good hands".
