Our view of the service
Date of assessment 09 May to 23 May 2024 Madaleyne Court is a residential care home providing personal care for up to 112 people aged 65 and over. At the time of our assessment the service was supporting 108 people. We reviewed 13 quality statements; Safeguarding; Involving people to manage risks; Safe and effective staffing; Infection prevention and control; Medicines optimisation; Person centred Care; Listening to and involving people; Equity in experiences and outcomes; Planning for the future; Shared direction and culture; Capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders; Governance, management and sustainability and Partnerships and communities. At our last inspection we recommended the provider look at good practice guidance about the quality of staffing levels and review people's needs in relation to their social isolation. At this assessment we found although the provider had made some improvements in these areas, the care people told us they received was more task focused than person-centred. On observation although staff were present, we found there to be little social interaction for people or 1:1 engagement for people who remained in their rooms.
People's experience of this service
Overall people and relatives we spoke to were positive about the care they or their family member received. Some people told us they had experienced delays in staff responding to their call bells when requesting assistance. Feedback we received indicated there was little time for staff to spend with people to create more meaningful social interactions. Comments included, “I do have to wait sometimes for them to answer my call bell, but that’s busy times for them, helping others,” and “I would only say that they seem so busy that they do not get to chat to me or other people, unless they are actually helping them.”
