Ranvilles Nursing and Residential Care Home is a care home registered to provide accommodation, nursing, and personal care. The aim of the service is to provide support and care for people who live with dementia and mental health needs. We completed this assessment due to concerns received from a partner agency in relation to risk management and safe systems, pathways and transitions. The assessment was unannounced and started on 14 May 2024. It ended on 3 June 2024. We looked at 10 quality statements. At our last inspection under our old methodology (report published 2 June 2022), the service was rated as good. At this assessment the rating has remained the same. We identified shortfalls about the governance of the service. We were not assured the training in dementia and mental health was sufficient to provide staff with the skills to provide effective support for people, particularly those with complex mental health needs and people who required 1:1 support. We observed a lack of activity and meaningful engagement for people at times. We also found records about people’s risks needed improvement. The provider had recognised most of these areas for improvement and were working with a consultancy company to make those improvements. However, improvements had not yet been embedded enough to make a positive change to the quality of people’s lives at the time of our assessment. Despite this, relatives provided positive feedback about the care and support people received. Staff told us there was a positive culture in the service and were committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care for people. Staff enjoyed working at Ranvilles and felt valued for the work they did. The leadership team were open throughout our assessment and took our feedback on board.
