During a routine inspection
We saw that people were supported to make decisions about their care. For example one person told us they were involved in making decisions about their relative's care, treatment and support and had agreed to the care set out in the care plan.
We saw staff were respectful when speaking with people, taking time to explain what they were going to do.
People told us that the staff supported them to manage their health care needs. A family carer told us that there was good access to the GP including out of hours and the district nurses attended when needed.
We saw that people had their nutritional needs assessed and monitored. Most people living at the home told us that the quality of the food was variable and the meat sometimes tough. One person told us that 'The roast dinners are quite nice and fresh vegetables and fruit are provided but there is not the choice available as there used to be.'
We saw that people benefited from a safe and pleasant environment. One person told us that they liked living at the home and liked their room.
On the day of our visit we saw that the cleanliness of some areas of the home and equipment had not been adequately cleaned and that there were not enough domestic staff to ensure this happened. One person told us their room was frequently dusty and another said they had to ask for the carpet to be vacuumed.
One person told us 'They are short staffed at times especially at night but staff do well.'
