Our view of the service
We carried out an assessment of Broom Lane which commenced on 29 August 2024 and ended on 30 September 2024. Broom Lane is a ‘care home’ that provides care and support to older people. Some people were living with dementia. The service can accommodate up to 57 people. At the time of the assessment 54 people were living at Broom Lane Care Home. This was the first inspection of a newly registered provider. At this assessment, we looked at all key questions. We identified 3 breaches of regulations relating to infection prevention and control, medicine management and good governance.
People's experience of this service
During our assessment we spoke with 9 people and 6 relatives and observed staff interacting with people. We recieved mainly positive feedback although some areas required improvement. We recieved mixed comments regarding staffing - some people felt there were reduced staffing at the weekend and not enough staff to meet people's needs effectively. People and relatives felt there was little stimulation and people were bored. People told us activities were not interesting and some people who preferred to stay in their rooms felt they had minimal activities. People and relatives told us the manager was new in post and some people didn't know who the manager was, however, others knew the management team by name. Positively, people felt they had good access to healthcare provision, staff were very nice, and people felt they had the autonomy to make their own choices. People felt safe living at the home and had access to equipment they needed such as equipment to address falls prevention.
