All Inspections

During a routine inspection

Most people living at 37 Brackenbury Road had lived there for over three years. We met two residents and the relative of a person who was about to move in. We were not able to speak to residents as those in the house at the time of our visit were not able to communicate with us verbally, but we saw interactions between residents and staff which showed that the staff knew the residents well. Staff supported residents to take part in a range of activities, of the residents' choice, outside their home. We saw feedback from families saying their relative "has a good social life" and "all the staff are so nice and helpful."

Staff supported residents to take part in leisure activities such as going out for meals that met their cultural preferences, and to the shops and cinema. Some residents attended college and others took part in activities at specialised day centres.

We saw that the staff spent time communicating with residents in their preferred way that included verbal and makaton.

The house was in good decorative order and clean and tidy on the day of our visit.

During an inspection in response to concerns

The people we spent time with have been living at Brakenbury Road for a number of years and communicated to us that they were happy with the service provided. We saw that staff knew the people well and spent time with each person communicating in their preferred way that included verbal, sign language and makaton. The people living at the home were asked what they wanted to do by staff. For instance one person wanted to go out into the community and go to the cinema. Staff arranged it so the individual went out with the relevant one to one support. We observed staff treating people with dignity and respect. Staff provided a diverse service to the people living at Brakenbury Road.
