Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 10 December to 23 December 2024. Paisley Court is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care for up to 60 older people, some of whom were living with dementia. At the time of our assessment, 56 people were living at the service. The reason for assessment was a rating review following an assessment in May 2024. We assessed all quality statements across safe and well led key questions. Paisley Court is registered for use by autistic people or people with a learning disability. At the time of the assessment, the service was not used by anyone with a learning disability or an autistic person. However, we assessed the care provision under Right Support, Right Care, Right Culture, as it is registered as a specialist service for this population group. Our overall rating has changed from requires improvement to good although some areas needed further development and improvement. For example, processes were in place for daily checks, audits and walkarounds, however, we found there were some gaps in these being completed. Further improvements were needed regarding aspects of infection control, medicines management and ensuring adequate and accurate information as contained within people’s risk assessments and care plans. We found the management team responsive and proactive to address any shortfalls we raised. We observed there were enough staff on duty to meet people’s needs, though some staff raised concerns about staffing levels. Since our last assessment there had been a greater emphasis on improving staff morale and wellbeing. The provider had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. Managers investigated incidents thoroughly. Leaders were visible, knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. Staff felt supported to give feedback and were treated equally, free from bullying or harassment.
People's experience of this service
People and their families spoke positively about the quality of care provided. They felt safe and able to raise any concerns. People spoke highly of staff members and said they were quick to respond to their needs. One person commented, “Staff are brilliant, that’s why I like it.” Family members told us they were well informed about incidents or changes to their relative’s care and were able to visit their relatives with no restrictions. People and their families felt there were always enough staff on duty, they told us the home was always clean and were happy with the improvements that had been made in recent months. When we shared feedback with the provider from people or their relatives which identified further improvements, the management team responded quickly and effectively.
