During a routine inspection
We observed positive interactions between staff and people using the service during our visit. One of the people living at the home referred to one of the staff members as their friend.
We observed that people's privacy and dignity was protected through the use of a screen and through ensuring that doors to bathrooms and people's rooms were closed during personal care. We saw people's wishes being respected for example a person decided that they did not want to eat their initial lunch request. Staff prepared another meal of choice for them. Staff showed a good awareness of the needs of people living at the home, were attentive and provided a good standard of care. We observed staff interpreting people's non-verbal signs and responding to these. Staff were encouraging people to be independent for example by encouraging people to help lay the table for lunch.
People using the service looked well cared for and showed signs of well-being. Where people had difficulties in swallowing, staff ensured that their meals had been prepared to the appropriate pureed consistencies. One of the people living at the home told us that the District Nurses visits them on Thursdays.
