Camelot Care Homes Ltd provides accommodation and nursing care for 57 older people in two adapted buildings. At the time of our assessment there were 49 people using the service. We undertook an unannounced on-site assessment on the 29 April 2024 followed by an announced on-site assessment on 30 April 2024 and 7 May 2024. Two inspectors, a medicines inspector and an expert by experience completed this assessment. The service had improved. Risks to people’s safety associated with the environment had been addressed and no hazards were identified. Action had been taken to minimise other risks people faced, but their positioning whilst eating needed further focus. There were enough staff to support people safely and improvements had been made to the safe management of medicines. There were systems to minimise the risk of abuse, and care plans had been devised to help staff support people with any distressed behaviour. There was a learning culture and staff received regular support and training. People’s consent was gained before any interactions took place, but information within capacity assessments was not always consistent. Staff responded to people’s immediate needs and worked well with other professionals. Staff were aware of their responsibilities to promote people’s rights, but some support was task orientated, with limited engagement. Improvements had been made to the management of the service, but greater monitoring of care practice and interactions was needed. People were encouraged to give their views about the support they received and the overall service. New formats had been developed to enable people to better understand information such as safeguarding and the complaint procedure.
