During a routine inspection
We observed the dentist conducting a check-up and a treatment. We saw they were aware of the mood of patients, helped them to be calm and treated them with respect and dignity. We also saw them respond to an emergency treatment and give excellent care and support to the patient and their concerned parent.
We looked at treatment plans and a patient told us, "the dentist assessed my teeth and asked me what was the most important area for them to start treating. I wanted my front teeth sorted and that is what we are doing today". Another patient told us, "I am completely involved in my treatment plan and the dentist gave me two options and the cost of each option".
We observed a nurse carrying out decontamination of dental instruments in the dentist's surgery. The surgery and waiting areas were clean and hygienic. One patient said, "the surgery is always clean and tidy".
We looked at staff records and saw staff had all received appropriate checks before commencing work in the practice. One member of staff told us, "the recruitment process was thorough and I knew I wanted to work here just from what I was told during my interview".
The dentist took appropriate action to monitor the quality of the service. The records we looked at showed environmental and equipment checks were carried out regularly and were up to date.
