During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this on-site, announced assessment on 14 May 2024. We found the practice had met all regulations. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation. Overall, the practice had systems to manage risks; however some improvements could be made to ensure action is taken when risks are identified. Infection control procedures followed published guidance. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance. Patients were treated with dignity and respect. At the time of our assessment, patients could access care, support and treatment when required. There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. The Mews Dental Clinic is part of Rodericks Dental Partners, a dental group provider. The practice is in Godalming in Surrey and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. At the time of our assessment, the dental team included 6 dentists, 5 dental nurses (including 3 trainees), 2 dental hygienists, 1 interim practice manager and 1 receptionist. The practice had 3 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 2 dentists, 3 dental nurses, 1 dental hygienist, the receptionist and the practice manager. The practice was supported on the day by 2 of the group’s compliance managers.

During a routine inspection

Thirteen people completed a questionnaire about the service on the day of the inspection and we spoke with four of these people. People we spoke with said 'I cannot fault it I am quite satisfied.' People also made the following comments about the service 'Very thorough, efficient and hygienic' and 'I am totally satisfied with the quality of the service received.'

We found that people had been provided with information about both the service and their individual care. People told us that they felt that they had been provided with plenty of information and that the options had been fully explained to them.

People had been provided with clear treatment plans that had been based on their assessed dental health care needs. People's medical history had been checked regularly and they had been provided with information about aftercare.

The practice was clean and there were policies and processes to ensure that the risk of infection had been effectively managed.

The provider had implemented a recruitment policy and staff checks had been made on staff prior to their recruitment.

The provider regularly sought the views of people.
