During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this on-site, announced assessment on 1 November 2024. We found the practice had met regulations. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and infection control procedures were in place. The practice had systems to manage risks. Alpha Dental Care Prettygate is part of Riverdale, a dental group provider. The practice is in Prettygate, Colchester and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. There was step free access to the practice and car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people near the practice. There were bus transport links close to the practice. The practice had 5 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 2 dentists, 2 dental nurses / receptionists, and the practice manager. We also spoke with the practice manager from a nearby practice and one of the organisation’s area managers.

During a routine inspection

We found that people were given the necessary time and information in order for them to make a decision. People gave verbal consent to treatment and they also signed their plans of treatment.

People were given personalised treatment plans that outlined the plan of treatment along with the potential risks and benefits. There was procedures and equipment in place to deal with foreseeable emergencies. On person said of their dentist, "We're friends now. I would recommend them."

The service was clean and well maintained. Staff demonstrated a good knowledge of infection control and there were processes and procedures in place to reduce the risk of infection.

Staff had access to training and supervision. We saw that staff meetings were held regularly and that all staff could add agenda items.

The provider undertook audits and sought the views of people who use the service. We saw that where concerns were raised, there were systems in place to address them.
