During a routine inspection
Patients attending the practice had an initial consultation with the dentist. We saw that the dentist completed records in discussion with patients. We talked with three Patients and they all told us that treatments had been explained to them.
We saw that the service had appropriate policies in place to manage infection control effectively. We also found that staff had received up to date training and that good infection control practices were followed.
Patients and staff were asked for their views about their care and treatment and they were acted on. One patient had asked for a reminder about their appointment. The provider had implemented an appointment reminder system and a person we talked with said 'I get a call the day before to remind me about the appointment, its worked wonders'
We looked at the records and information policy and saw that this covered the handling and storage of records. However, we found concerns that the provider did not have a nominated person (known as a Caldicott Guardian) responsible for protecting confidentiality of patient information and to enable appropriate information sharing.
We saw that patient records had clearly recorded information in relation to the care and treatments provided.
