On the day of the inspection we spoke with the practice manager, two dentists, and one dental nurse. Following the inspection we undertook telephone interviews with four people who used the service. The practice had surgeries located on the ground and first floor, and therefore is accessible to wheelchair users. People told us their consent was always obtained before any treatment was provided. One person told us, "The dentist always asks for my consent before any treatment is provided."
People told us they were given information about their treatment and the cost of this. There were procedures in place for medical emergencies and staff had received the appropriate training to assist a person if they became unwell.
The practice was clean and people we spoke with confirmed this. One person told us, "It is a very welcoming environment and nicely appointed.' However the decontamination room required work to make it a suitable environment for the cleaning, sterilising and storing of instruments.
We found that procedures were in place to ensure only suitable staff were recruited.
There was a complaints procedure in place to enable people to share their concerns.
