Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 25 March 2024

Derby Heights Care Home is a residential home, for up to 75 people. At the time of our assessment 65 people were using the service. The home specialises in the care of older people, some of whom are living with dementia, mental health conditions, physical disabilities and sensory impairments. We completed this assessment between 1 May and 3 June 2024. We spoke to three people’s representatives, eight people that were living at the home and received feedback from three external professionals. We reviewed documents including care records, staff recruitment files and records relating to the management of the service. At the last inspection during August 2017 this location was rated as good. Following this assessment the service remains Good.

People's experience of the service

Updated 25 March 2024

People we spoke with felt safe and happy at Derby Heights Care Home. People and relatives spoke positively about the care and support provided. Relatives felt their family members were supported well by staff who knew them and their individual needs. Risks to people had been assessed and reviewed regularly or if risk changed. Care plans were in place which included people's needs and preferences. Three people felt they had not been involved in their care plans. The registered manager confirmed actions to further improve people’s involvement in care planning. People were supported by staff who were trained and recruited safely to meet their needs. However, two people that used the service told us that they had to wait for staff to respond to call bells. People were supported to access a variety of healthcare settings and information was shared with health care professionals to ensure people’s needs were met. People and relatives felt able to raise concerns if they had any and felt they would be listened to. One person said, “I would report any staff who didn’t make me feel comfortable. I feel safe with everyone.” People, relatives, and staff were provided with opportunities to give feedback about the service, enabling improvements to be made. We saw that the registered manager was acting upon feedback received.
