During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced on-site assessment on 12 July 2024. We found the practice had met regulations. The practice had systems to manage risks, and the recruitment procedures broadly reflected current legislation. Infection control procedures followed published guidance. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance, and they were treated with dignity and respect. At the time of our assessment, patients could access care, support and treatment when required. There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. The Smile Studios: Park Parade is part of The Smile Studios, a dental group provider. The practice is in Palmers Green, in the London Borough of Enfield, and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. At the time of our assessment, the dental team included the principal dentist, 2 associate dentists, 3 dental nurses, 1 dental hygienist and 2 receptionists. They were supported by the regional manager. The practice had 3 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 1 dentist, 1 dental nurse, 1 dental hygienist, and the regional manager.

During a routine inspection

Patients told us they were happy with the service. One said, 'My experience has been excellent, first class." Another said, 'I travel to come here. I like it. It's modern, clean and professional." All the patients we spoke with referred to friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere. A typical comment from one patient was, "the staff are friendly, the place is clean and getting appointments is easy."

Patients told us that the dentists were good at explaining what they were going to do and they found them professional. One said, "it's efficient. They tell you what they are going to do and they speak to you about it." We saw that there were detailed computer patient records including signed authorisation and medical history forms. Patients told us that their medical history and updates were always asked for when they had appointments.

The dental surgery was clean and hygienic. There were online data logs of the daily checks of the autoclave. Records confirmed that the decontamination equipment had been serviced regularly and that daily checks were being undertaken.

Feedback from staff was positive. We saw that recruitment and selection of new staff followed a clear path. The required checks had been made for the most recently appointed staff members. We saw evidence of regular team meetings and of staff training.

Patients had been asked to give their views via a patient survey. The provider's website was also used to gather patient's views and it contained a section where patients had given written as well as video comments. In addition, the provider carried out daily auditing of records, staff meetings had taken place and there were systems where staff were asked to read and sign policies and procedures.
