All Inspections

01/11/2023

During a routine inspection

We carried out this announced comprehensive inspection on 1 November 2023 under section 60 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 as part of our regulatory functions.

We planned the inspection to check whether the registered practice was meeting the legal requirements in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and associated regulations.

The inspection was led by a Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspector who was supported by a specialist dental advisor.

To get to the heart of patients’ experiences of care and treatment, we always ask the following 5 questions:

  • Is it safe?
  • Is it effective?
  • Is it caring?
  • Is it responsive to people’s needs?
  • Is it well-led?

These questions form the framework for the areas we look at during the inspection.

Our findings were:

  • The dental clinic appeared clean and well-maintained.
  • The practice had infection control procedures which reflected published guidance.
  • Staff knew how to deal with medical emergencies. Appropriate medicines and life-saving equipment were available.
  • The practice had systems to manage risks for patients, staff, equipment and the premises.
  • Safeguarding processes were in place and staff knew their responsibilities for safeguarding vulnerable adults and children.
  • The practice had staff recruitment procedures which reflected current legislation.
  • Clinical staff provided patients’ care and treatment in line with current guidelines.
  • Patients were treated with dignity and respect. Staff took care to protect patients’ privacy and personal information.
  • Staff provided preventive care and supported patients to ensure better oral health.
  • The appointment system worked efficiently to respond to patients’ needs.
  • The frequency of appointments was agreed between the dentist and the patient, giving due regard to National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines.
  • There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Staff felt involved, supported and worked as a team.
  • Staff and patients were asked for feedback about the services provided.
  • Complaints were dealt with positively and efficiently.
  • The practice had information governance arrangements.

Background

Campaigne Limited (also known as C the Dentist) is in Cheadle, Stockport and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There is step free access to the practice for people who use wheelchairs and those with pushchairs. Car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, are available near the practice. The practice has made reasonable adjustments to support patients with access requirements.

The dental team includes 1 dentist, 1 dental hygienist, 2 qualified dental nurses and a receptionist. The practice has 2 treatment rooms.

During the inspection we spoke with the dentist, 1 qualified dental nurse and the receptionist. We looked at practice policies, procedures and other records to assess how the service is managed.

The practice is open:

Monday to Thursday from 9am to 5pm

There were areas where the provider could make improvements. They should:

  • Improve the practice's processes for the control and storage of substances hazardous to health identified by the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002, to ensure risk assessments are undertaken and the products are stored securely.
  • Take action to implement any recommendations in the practice's fire safety risk assessment and ensure ongoing fire safety management is effective.
  • Take action to ensure the clinicians take into account the guidance provided by the College of General Dentistry when completing dental care records.

During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

We carried out this inspection to check that areas of concerns identified at our last inspection had been addressed. We found improvements had been made. During this inspection we found that a legionella risk assessment had been carried out and water monitoring checks were completed to ensure that the risk of bacteria developing within the water system was controlled.

23 July 2013

During a routine inspection

As part of the inspection we spoke with three people who used the service. We were told; "They are the people that I trust to care for my oral health and they have never let me down" and "You couldn't improve it here."

We looked at the care records of six people who used the service. These showed us that people's treatment had been discussed with them, and where necessary copies of their treatment plans provided.

During our visit we observed staff treating people in a kind, professional and respectful manner. The three people we spoke with told us that all the staff at the service were very helpful, pleasant and always explained everything to them in relation to their treatments. People we spoke with confirmed that they were provided with information regarding aftercare.

Appropriate personal protective equipment was available in all areas of the service. We saw there were some systems in place to ensure people were cared for in a clean and hygienic environment. We also saw that a variety of audits were carried out. These included annual surveys.

We saw that where appropriate, staff were registered with the General Dental Council and comprehensive records of continuing development activities were maintained.
