Our view of the service

We carried out this on-site, announced assessment on 26 November 2024. We found the practice had met all regulations. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and infection control procedures were in place. The practice had systems to manage risks. Staff felt involved and supported and worked as a team. Staff and patients were asked for feedback about the services provided. The service provides surgical and non-surgical cosmetic treatments, some of which are not in-scope such as certain facial aesthetics procedures. Oak Hill Dental Practice is in Woodford Green in the London Borough of Waltham Forest and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. There was step free access to the practice and on street car parking spaces were available directly outside and near the practice. The dental team includes the principal dentist, 9 associate dentists, 1 foundation dentist, 1 orthodontist, 1 prosthodontist, 1 dental hygienist, 4 qualified dental nurses, 5 trainee dental nurses, and 3 reception staff, one of whom was in training to undertake the role of practice manager. The practice had 6 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 2 dentists, 3 dental nurses, the dental hygienist, and 2 receptionists.

People's experience of this service

Two weeks before our onsite assessment, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 10 patients. On the day of our assessment, we spoke with and saw patient feedback from a further 2 patients. Feedback indicated that patients were generally very happy with the care and treatment they received at the practice. Patients commented positively about the tidiness at the reception area. Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed. Patients told us they were involved in decisions about their treatment. Patients told us that they were supported to maintain their oral health and were provided with appropriate information and resources. The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
