Independence, choice and control
People were supported to be involved in their daily care, where possible. The majority of people’s relatives told us they had been involved in the care planning of family member. One relative commented, “Yes. The phone me sometimes to ask me. When we looked at the hours we did.” People gave us numerous examples of where the staff team demonstrated a caring nature towards them.
Independence was not always promoted. Although the registered manager advised they encourage independence where possible this was not reflected in people’s care records with assessments and care plans did not contain detail about how and where independence could be promoted by staff. The registered manager explained the current framework around care reviews is an annual review. The registered manager stated this will sometimes take place face to face or over the phone. We requested evidence of all reviews; these could not be provided for all of the people who used the service.
