Caring
We did not look at all quality statements for Caring at this assessment. The service was Caring. People’s individual needs and preferences were well documented, and this was reflected in their care, treatment, and support. Staff told us how they cared for the people they supported. This included that both staff and people who used the service received recognition of their birthdays and they were celebrated.

Independence, choice and control
One person told us, “They (Staff) have my best interests in mind, making sure I have what I need in place.” A relative said, “I would say they are very, very good and they keep me informed about things.” One person told us, “Staff are really professional and seem really caring and respectful.” A family member said, “The staff attend to [relative] and encourage independence where they can.”
Reviews of people’s care were undertaken, and people and relatives were actively involved. Staff understood person centred care and were able to explain how they ensured people were given choice and control in their lives. Staff told us they gained consent before providing care and one staff member said, “We encourage people to do as much for themselves as possible, if they can help prepare their food we encourage this, if they can take control of their personal care we support this as far as possible.”
Care plans detailed people’s choices and levels of support needed. Staff and the registered manager spoke about involvement and working in partnership with people and their families. Staff had received training in the mental capacity act and person-centred care.
