During a routine inspection
We saw the receptionist manager checked the medical history details. We observed patients came out after consultation with the dentist with information on charges and about the type of treatment which had been discussed.
We were shown the summary sheet of the Infection Prevention Society (IPS) audit tool which was used to monitor compliance with guidelines on decontamination in dental practices. This provided assurance that measures were being taken to protect patients against the risk of cross infection.
We saw the protocol which was used to recruit new staff members and an induction check list which was used to ensure that staff were suitable and could work safely in the practice.
Staff received appropriate professional development.
We observed that patients personal records were kept on computer and that this was password protected. The manager explained that paper records including medical histories were kept on file and locked within a filing cabinet in the reception area.
