Score: 3

People were supported to follow their own interests and activities they enjoyed. One person told us, “I like going to college and doing classes in knitting, sewing and pottery, I like making things.” Another person said, “I like to go to the library, for dog walks and out for lunch with my friend.” A relative told us, “My relative goes out to a day center and they play games at the service or go out to the seafront.”

Staff knew people’s preferences and how they wished to be supported. Staff promoted positive outcomes for people by encouraging them to live full and active lives. The registered manager told us they supported people to follow interests of their choice including planning holidays away from the service.

People told us of the activities they enjoyed doing and we observed people being supported with individual activities of their choice. People wanted to show us their rooms and we saw these were all individual to them and personalised how they wanted. We saw people involved in different activities such as sitting in the garden talking with staff, playing games, using a computer and watching programs they enjoyed on the television.

Care was planned in a person-centred way with the involvement of people and relatives where appropriate. People’s care needs were regularly reviewed with them using easy read formats to gain their feedback. This meant staff had the most up to date information on how they wished to be supported.
