Royal Greenwich Shared Lives (RGSL) is a community based accommodation service which supports carers who provide personal care and support for people within their own family homes and community to enable people to live as independently as possible. The service provides support for people who have mental health needs and learning or physical disabilities. We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. 'Right support, right care, right culture' is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it. At the time of the assessment, 21 people were receiving personal care. Assessment activity started on 11 April 2024 and ended on 21 June 2024. We looked at 7 quality statements; Safeguarding; Involving people to manage risks; Safe and effective staffing; Assessing needs, Consent to care and treatment, Independence, choice and control and Equity in experiences and outcomes. We met and spoke with the registered manager during the onsite assessment. Following the onsite assessment, we spoke with 4 people, 4 relatives, 2 placement officers, 2 carers and received feedback from 3 healthcare professionals and an advocate. At our last inspection the service was rated good. During this assessment, the service continues to be rated good. Systems were in place to help protect people from the risk of harm. Staff were recruited safely and trained appropriately. The organisation had a culture which put people and their needs at the forefront of the service and was widely understood and practiced by staff. Management evaluated the quality of service provided. The service worked effectively with health and social care professionals which helped ensure people’s needs were fully met.

People received personalised care and support in accordance with their needs, wishes and protected characteristics. People and relatives spoke positively about the caring attitude and empathy shown by staff. People felt safe and comfortable in the presence of carers. A person-centred approach was taken to the management of risks. People were supported to have an active role in maintaining their own health and wellbeing. People were supported and received care from staff who knew them well, understood their needs and considered their preferences. People’s care records reflected their needs and promoted their wellbeing. People and those important to them, were involved in planning their care. People were fully supported to live a life of their choosing and to increase their independence where possible.
