Our current view of the service

Requires improvement

Updated 18 March 2024

Date of assessment 23 May 2024 to 24 June 2024. Lenthall House is a care home providing accommodation for people requiring personal care to up to 40 people. At the time of our assessment there were 38 people using the service. As part of our assessment activity, we undertook an on-site visit on 23 May 2024. This assessment was prompted by information we held about this service. We assessed a total of 8 quality statements. At the last inspection, this location was rated good. During this assessment, we found the location rating had deteriorated to requires improvement. During this assessment, we found concerns with the quality and safety of people’s care. We found two breaches of the legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment and freedom to speak up. People were not always protected from the risks associated with being moved using equipment. On 2 occasions we saw moving and handling equipment was not used in a safe way. The environment was in need of redecoration and refurbishment. The service was not as clean as it should be and some areas of the premises were damaged and difficult to thoroughly clean. Staff knew how to raise concerns but did not feel confident doing so and did not always feel listened to. There were not always enough staff to meet people’s needs or keep them safe. Staff managed people’s medicines in a safe way, they knew people well and understood their individual needs.

People's experience of the service

Updated 18 March 2024

People and their relatives liked the staff and told us they were competent and could meet their needs. People and their relatives did not feel there were enough staff and they had to wait a long time for staff to respond to their requests. They were unhappy about the environment and equipment. They had raised these issues with senior managers but did not feel their concerns were responded to in a timely way.
