This practice was located on the ground floor and a portable ramp was available at the main entrance to assist people who have restricted mobility. The premises consisted of a treatment room, reception/waiting area and a toilet. Car parking was available at the rear of the property. The dental team consisted of two dentists, one qualified and two trainee dental nurses. During the inspection we spoke with a dentist, one dental nurse and five people who used the service.
We found that people were informed of their treatment options and their consent for treatment was obtained. One person who used the service said, "My dentist always informs me of my treatment options.'
Dental records contained a dental plan and showed what treatment people had received.
We found that appropriate systems and practices were in place for the decontamination of dental instruments to reduce the risk of cross infection.
The staff recruitment practices were not entirely robust to ensure the suitability of staff who worked at the practice. However, one person who used the service said, 'The staff are lovely, they put me at ease.'
The practice had an effective quality assurance monitoring system in place to ensure people were not at risk of inappropriate care or treatment.
