Date of assessment 11 July to 25 July 2024. We undertook this assessment as we had received some information of concern regarding falls management at the home. We received reports that people were falling regularly, and robust action was not being taken to minimise these risks. We also received some concerns about the general care within the home. We found that people were at risk of falls and there had been some previous gaps, however the service had been working closely with external agencies improve this quickly and manage and minimise risks to people. People had robust care plans and risk assessments in place, and staff knew people well. Some documentation could be improved, for example food and fluid charts, however the management team were receptive to this feedback and had already put measures in place to address this. They were also reviewing staff deployment levels to ensure these were sufficient across the whole day. There was a positive learning culture at the service and staff spoke of pride in working for the home. People told us they felt safe, and relatives commented on how kind and caring staff were. Regular training was undertaken to ensure staff knowledge remained up to date and relevant to best support people living at Blatchington Manor.
