People’s support plans reflected their choices and decisions and informed staff how their care and support should be provided. The home employed activity coordinators who worked with the care team to deliver a range of activities to help people maintain their hobbies and interests. People had regular reviews of their care and could make changes to how they wanted to be supported if needed.

People felt they had choice and control of their lives as they were able to choose how they wanted to be supported. One person told us how they can get up when they want, staff never tell them what to do and they always ask if they would like to do something. Relatives also felt people were supported well and able to maintain ties with their loved ones. One relative told us, “I am able to maintain a relationship that I had built up before [relative] had moved in.” Another relative told us they were visiting someone who had only been a resident for a few days. They told us that they had been made to feel very welcome by every member of staff they had been in contact with.

Staff and leaders demonstrated an understating of ensuing people take control of their lives as much as possible. Staff had a good understanding of respecting people’s individual needs and wishes. Staff told us there was plenty to do at the home and the activities were meaningful and there was something to do for everyone.

During our assessment we witnessed staff providing people with a choice and the layout of the home allowed for people to decide where they would like to spend their time. We observed people during the day taking part in a range of activities as well as having their relatives visit. We were informed there were no restriction around visiting.
