Independence, choice and control

Score: 2

Some of the feedback we received from relatives indicated they were satisfied with the amount of involvement and choice they had. However, we found not all people were supported by the provider to maximise their independence, choice and control as some people's relatives were consulted about whether they wanted to go on holiday and where to, whilst others were not offered this choice. A small number of people were afforded the opportunity to access their local community, whilst the majority of others were not. One person particularly enjoyed physical exercise in the community but had rarely been supported to participate in this activity.

People had not always been supported with their independence and enabled to enjoy a wide range of activities in the community. Where preferences were known, there had been insufficent efforts to support people by employing staff with the right skills to help them pursue these interests.
