Our view of the service

This service is a domiciliary care agency. It provides personal care to people living in their own houses and flats. The service cares for older adults and younger adults with a learning disability. At the time of our assessment, there were 27 people using the service. Date of assessment 9 to 14 January 2025. We carried out a visit to the service on 14 January 2025. The assessment was conducted based on our schedule of assessments and the date of the last rating. The last rating for this service was good (published 4 June 2019). The service remains good following this assessment. People received safe care. Risks to their wellbeing and safety were planned for. The provider worked closely with external professionals to help manage risk. People’s needs were assessed, planned for and monitored. People made choices about their care. Staff were well trained and supported. They were happy in their roles and had good relationships with the people they were caring for. The service was well managed and there were effective systems for monitoring and improving quality. We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it. The provider demonstrated they were meeting the principles of Right support, right care, right culture.

People's experience of this service

People using the service and their relatives were happy with the care and support they received. They told us they were cared for by the same familiar staff who knew them well. Everyone we spoke with told us they would recommend the agency to others. People were able to make choices and felt supported to be in control of their care. The agency supported some younger adults with a learning disability to learn new skills and take part in social activities. People had enjoyable experiences and there were positive outcomes which included reduced incidents of aggression and managing anxiety. People received personalised care which included supporting them to access health and social care services when they needed this support. The staff had developed and learnt ways to communicate with people and support them to make choices. Some people could not use words to communicate and some people did not speak English as a first language. The agency matched staff who could communicate effectively with people. This helped ensure they felt heard and respected.
