During a routine inspection
We saw meeting and review records that demonstrated staff supporting people who used the service regularly contacted other relevant agencies involved in people's care and support; for example midwifes, GPs and community psychiatric nurses (CPNs). We noted that most records had accordingly been up dated.
We spoke with four members of staff about their understanding of safeguarding issues in relation to children, young people and vulnerable adults. They all demonstrated a clear understanding of signs and behaviours associated with potential abuse that they should look out for as well as their responsibilities in relation to acting upon any suspicions or concerns.
Appropriate arrangements were in place for ordering, storing and disposal of medicines. They had a small quantity of vaccines and one injection for treatment of anaphylactic shock. The vaccines were stored according the recommendations of the manufactures and at the required temperatures.
The atmosphere in the service was relaxed and friendly and we observed staff being caring and supportive in their approach to people. They appeared to know them well and clearly understood their individual needs and preferences. One person who used the service told us 'I couldn't ask for better people'.
We saw that the service had regularly gained the views and experiences of people who used the service in the way the service was provided and delivered. Comments included 'Addaction has really helped me get the idea of recovery and I thank you all' and 'Very helpful in all ways. I must say I am very lucky my key worker is very helpful and understanding and helpful to me. They do an excellent job'.
