We assessed a limited number of quality statements in the effective key question and found areas of good practice. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the rating from the last inspection, which was requires improvement. Though the assessment of these areas indicated areas of good practice since the last inspection, our rating for the key question remains requires improvement. People’s needs were regularly assessed, and assessments were reviewed monthly or sooner if required. Staff had received training to enable them to provide evidence-based care and treatment.

Assessing needs

Score: 3

People were supported to communicate their needs. The manager had created picture cards to help people communicate effectively. Relatives’ needs were supported, and the manager created guidance and easy read documentation around key topics to support relatives’ understanding and wellbeing.

Staff confirmed people’s needs were regularly assessed and care plans written in response to those assessments. Comments from staff included, “We make sure to know each resident well, understanding their preferences, likes, and dislikes, and tailor our care to meet their individual needs effectively” and, “Person-centred care plans are written involving people and their families to find out how they like to be cared for while they are staying at Eagle View.”

People’s needs were assessed using recognised tools and these were reviewed monthly or sooner if required. There were some inconsistencies and inaccuracies within the risk assessments. The manager resolved these following our feedback.

Delivering evidence-based care and treatment

People generally received care, treatment and support that was evidence-based and in line with good practice guidance. People were offered fluids regularly throughout the day and people’s dietary and nutritional needs were met. People received fortified and modified diets where needed.

Staff were generally knowledgeable about the delivery of care in line with best practice and were observed to support people appropriately including using appropriate moving and handling procedures.

Staff had received training to enable them to provide evidence-based care and treatment. The manager carried out spot checks, observations and competency assessments to ensure care workers were providing support in line with best practice guidance.
