Our view of the service

We carried out an unannounced inspection of the Providence and Moira House, child and adolescent mental health wards (Camhs) 22nd and 23rd April 2024 and as part of our continuous assessment process again on 23rd and 24th July 2024. These inspections were as a result of concerns regarding risk and to follow up on the findings of the previous inspection. During our inspection we visited both wards. We gathered information from people using the service and their loved ones, staff and managers, other stakeholders, our own observations, we reviewed a range of documents including care records, and policies and procedures. We looked at all the quality statements. During our inspection we found that young people viewed the service positively and all of them felt safe. We saw staff were caring and supportive. The environment had been damaged recently and the provider was able to provide evidence that repairs had already been ordered. There were sufficient staff, and they had received an induction, supervision or appropriate training. Staff generally felt supported by their managers and felt they could raise concerns. The service had responded to an earlier inspection by increasing safeguarding recording and improving the quality of investigations into incidents.

People's experience of this service

The young people told us they felt safe on the wards. They said staff were supportive and caring, young people felt staff understood their needs and were caring and responsive to their needs. They said they had access to advocacy and understood their medication. They all felt involved in the development of their care plans.
