During a routine inspection
We saw that people were actively encouraged to participate in their individual treatment programme and that they accessed specialist therapies and other support from staff. This demonstrated to us that care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare.
We saw evidence of close and collaborative working with other mental health care services and other health professionals. None of the people we spoke with expressed any concerns about their safety. One person said: "The ward is really good. It is my first time and I am not well, I feel safe here." This showed us that the provider ensured that people who used the service were protected from the risk of abuse.
Staff reported that there were good opportunities for training and career development. This demonstrated to us that people were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.
The provider had effective systems in place to monitor the quality and safety of service that people received.

During an inspection in response to concerns
They reported differing levels of consultation regarding care planning and whether or not they had signed their own individual care plans but everyone was aware of the care and treatment they were receiving and felt able to approach staff if they needed re-assurance or support. Examples of these included attendance and participation at their individual weekly review meetings. A seven day a week rehabilitation programme was in place where appropriate, and people reported active engagement opportunities with staff and the provision of daily protected time, (a designated time set aside for staff to engage and develop therapeutic relationships with patients), on all the wards visited.
People who were receiving care and treatment told us that they felt safe on the wards and able to report any concerns to staff and confident that these concerns would be acted upon if necessary.
People using the service told us that they felt that they were getting better and improving due to the care and treatment they were receiving on the wards. They felt they were able to report any incidents they witnessed to staff and confident that these would be acted upon if necessary.
