During a routine inspection
However, we spoke with four people's relatives about what they thought of the service. All the relatives we spoke with praised the service. Relatives told us, 'It is an excellent service. It is really good'; 'It is excellent I can go away and have peace of mind. I know when I pick up [X] they will be fine' and 'It is a vital service. When [X] goes into respite you can relax and you trust the staff to look after your relative'.
Relatives of the people who received services said they enjoyed stopping at Byron Terrace. We heard '[X] loves coming here' and '[X] is always happy when they come home. They ask when they are going again. They enjoy the staff's company too'.
We heard that staff at Byron Terrace were supportive. Relatives said, 'I have used it as a crisis service. The staff are very flexible'; 'The staff are very supportive and are there at the end of a phone when you are struggling'; 'The staff provide flexible support' and 'They work well with me'.
Relatives told us that they had recently heard the service was going to be closed. They told us they were 'devastated'. We heard 'Without this service I feel [X] would be potentially at risk from an inferior service'; 'I would be totally lost without it' and 'This service is absolutely vital to us'.
We spoke with a social care professional who worked with the staff at Byron Terrace. They said the service 'provided a quality service that was much appreciated by service users [people who use services] and their relatives'.
