During a routine inspection
We saw staff care for patients in a caring, responsive and compassionate manner. We found evidence of assessments and care planning having been undertaken to help ensure patients' needs were met.
We spoke with four relatives/carers about their views of the care provided at 8 Fox View. We received consistently positive feedback about the standards of care. For example, one person told us 8 Fox View was 'a fantastic place'.
We saw how staff at the service worked with a range of other professionals and agencies to ensure patients' needs were met and welfare promoted.
We found evidence of the service safeguarding patients from the risks of harm. For instance, staff had received safeguarding training and we saw from care records examples of when the service had taken appropriate action to protect patients. All four relatives/carers we spoke with felt patients on the unit were kept safe.
We found mixed evidence with regards to record keeping. Some records were kept secure but we also saw some records which contained personal information had been left in the unit's lounge area. Daily care records were up to date. We found examples of where there were gaps in recording and found some staff would make entries to the electronic patient database whilst others would make entries in the paper records. We consider it to be only fair however to acknowledge that in between our inspection and this report's publication, a routine review from the Care Quality Commission's Mental Health Act team took place and they found improvements had taken place. When the Mental Health Act team visited, they found care records to be in order.
We received positive feedback from all four relatives/carers we spoke with regarding staffing levels and the quality of the staff working at the service.
