Caring

Requires improvement

Updated 20 August 2024

The feedback we received from relatives and staff indicated that there was a positive culture within the service. Staff told us that they cared about people and well being staff provided a range of activities across the week to help keep people engaged. The registered manager was proactive in monitoring the service to help ensure people received good care and concerns about the service were addressed. We found however the deployment of staff meant some people were not engaged during the day and people’s distress reactions not fully understood due to time limitations on staff. This meant people did not always receive timely care which enhanced their wellbeing. This was not due to uncaring staff rather constraints of time and staff not all pulling together or escalating concerns. Our observations indicated that some people needed more care and support and where this had been declined this needed to be carefully documented and escalated so the risks of declined care was clearly known and explored to see if further strategies could be developed. Activity levels fluctuate according to people’s ability and wish to engage and without volunteers or good community engagement it was difficult to see how peoples social needs were being met fully.
