During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced, on-site assessment on 26 November 2024. We found the practice had met regulations. The practice had systems to manage risks. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and infection control procedures were in place. Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. The service provides surgical and non-surgical cosmetic treatments, some of which are not in scope of regulation and are not covered in our assessment. Dental Care Centre is in Redcar and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and NHS care and treatment for children. There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, were available near the practice. The practice had 2 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 1 dentist, 2 dental nurses, 1 dental hygienist, and 1 receptionist.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with five people who used the service. People said that they were very happy and that they saw the dentist on a regular basis. They confirmed the dentist always explained what they were doing, what they had found during the examination and what the treatment options were. They told us that staff were approachable and that they felt able to ask the dentist questions or make comments about their treatment. One person spoken with said, 'I have seen the same dentist for over 20 years. He is so good and knows how nervous I am. He does everything possible to put me at ease. He tells me what he is going to do and what to expect. That's why when the practice went private I stayed with it.' Another person said, 'This is a good practice, you are always made to feel welcome. All of the staff know your name when you walk in. The dentist is really good.'

People told us that the practice was flexible and that if they needed to see the dentist in an emergency they would always fit them in.

We found that people had their privacy and dignity respected.

We found that people were protected from the risk of infection as care was delivered in a clean and hygienic environment, however not all essential infection control policies/procedures had been developed.

People were cared for, or supported by, suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.

People told us that they felt comfortable in raising a concern or complaint with staff working at the practice.
