Our view of the service
Oaklands (Essex) is a residential care home providing accommodation with personal care for up to 55 people. The service provides care to older people. We carried out our on-site assessment on 3 September 2024. Off site assessment activity started on 29 August 2024 and ended on 12 September 2024. This was a responsive assessment. At the time of our assessment 40 people were being supported with personal care at the service. We looked at quality statements relating to areas in Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-Led. We looked at 5 key questions, but we did not assess all quality statements during this assessment. For those areas we did not assess, we used the ratings awarded at the last inspection to calculate the overall rating.
People's experience of this service
People and their relatives told us they felt safe in the home and with staff. One person said, “Staff are kind, they get the doctor for me if I need one.” Another said, “I like the friendly staff, no one shouts at you, I am happy here. I feel safe and I like looking out of my window on to the garden, they have things going on, but they don’t make you go.” A stakeholder said, “recently it has become more enjoyable to be in the home and be part of the family that is Oaklands.” We observed lots of interactions between staff and supported people. There were meaningful activities taking place and people could access a courtyard garden freely. We were told there is a monthly dementia cafe for people and their families which is always very well attended.
