People had good relationships with staff who were kind and who treated them respectfully. People were able to make decisions about their care and were supported to be independent.

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

People’s individual needs and preferences were understood, and these were reflected in their care, treatment and support. People told us they were well treated by kind and caring staff. One person told us, “The staff are wonderful.” A second person commented, “Staff always come and talk to me. There are activities and games, and we listen to music.”

Staff told us they made sure people’s care, support and treatment meets their needs and preferences. The provider told us people’s personal, cultural and social needs were understood. This was reflected in the foods purchased for people and activities people valued.

We observed staff treating people as individuals and celebrating and enabling their uniqueness. One person’s friendship with a member of staff had promoted their social inclusion and promoted their self-esteem. Tasks allocated to the person had enhanced their interpersonal skills and self-worth and established them as a valued member of the team.

Staff told us care plans provided information to enable them to engage in people’s care, treatment and support. One staff member told us, “Care plans are up to date and reviewed regularly.”
