For this key question, we assessed 2 quality statements relating to capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders and governance, management and sustainability. Quality assurance processes in place were still not always effective as shortfalls found in medicines were either not identified or not progressed in a timely way. There was a clear management structure with easily identifiable lead roles. People and relatives spoke positively about the way the service was managed and the manager's leadership style. The approachability of the registered manager had been praised. Staff told us they felt valued and respected at work and were confident they were supported by an approachable manager. Feedback from people included, "[Nominated individual] is a good person. He listens to you if you need anything.”

Freedom to speak up

Staff told us the management team were visible within the home and were confident they would listen to any concerns they raised. One staff member told us, “[Registered manager] is good. I am able to go to him at any time. A firm good leader, who will listen and guide.”

Staff told us that management had driven improvement within the home and with their personal development. We observed and took part in open and transparent conversations which promoted their integrity. The provider had policies to support staff to speak up, raise concerns, drive improvement and keep people safe. There were staff safeguarding and whistle-blower champions to offer staff guidance and support.

Governance, management and sustainability

The provider worked with partners in care to ensure continuity of care was embedded to keep people safe. The had a regular consultations with health professionals which built positive relationships with people. Staff told us the registered manager was knowledgeable and worked effectively with all the staff.

The provider had set up systems to check the quality of the service. The management team carried out audits and checked the standards and quality of the service. However, some of the medicine concerns had not been identified by the provider. We observed management were visible within the home and knew people well and were knowledgeable on people and their likes and support needs. There was a clear management structure with easily identifiable lead roles. People and relatives spoke positively about the way the service was managed and the registered manager's leadership style.
